Georges St-Pierre has been ruled out for ten months after picking up a serious knee injury.

UFC president Dana White confirmed on Wednesday that the UFC welterweight champion had injured his anterior cruciate ligament. St-Pierre was due to defend his belt against Nick Diaz at UFC 143 on February 5 in Las Vegas, but Carlos Condit will now step in to fight Diaz for the interim title.

"GSP blown acl will be out for 10 months," White wrote on his Twitter page. "Now Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4 in Las Vegas!!"

The injury is the second setback St-Pierre has had this year, having already been forced out of an initial title bout with Condit at UFC 137. Diaz took advantage that night, beating BJ Penn in the revised main event to leap ahead of Condit in the title queue, but now injury has struck down St-Pierre again.

The newly-made interim title bout between Diaz and Condit leaves Josh Koscheck most out of pocket. Koscheck has been set to take on Condit at UFC 143 but is currently searching for a new opponent.
