Cory Jane has finally upgraded to a full driver's licence, taking his driving test after 12 years on restricted duties because "I had pressure put on me from the New Zealand Rugby Union".

"They wanted to take the car back if I didn't get my full," Jane told Fairfax Media on Wednesday. "Since I'd been on my restricted for 12 years I thought I'd better just go for it. I'm not sure [why I never got it before this week]. I got told you could drive with the kids in the car just like a full licence. I've never had a kick in the bum until now when the New Zealand Rugby Union made all the boys [All Blacks] do it. Jules [Julian Savea] did his straight after me. I feel like I'm a grown-up now."

Jane previously could not drive passengers without a supervisor in the front seat who had held a full licence for at least two years. Nor could he drive alone between the hours of 10pm and 5am.
