Colin Montgomerie has played down suggestions he delivered a snub to Sir Nick Faldo.

It had been reported that Ryder Cup captain Montgomerie rejected the chance to talk tactics with the man he took over the reins from.

"I didn't just want to make my views known to him through the media, so I wrote to Monty suggesting we meet up for a chat," Faldo told the Mail on Sunday. "But I have not had a reply. I don't think I need say any more than that. It says it all."

The report came as a surprise to Montgomerie who, having played at the BMW International last week just 20 minutes behind Faldo, has made it clear that he intends to seek out his old foe for advice.

"I didn't see him this week unfortunately," Montgomerie said. "He was playing four games ahead of me, I believe, and he missed the cut. I will take the opportunity hopefully the next time we are together."
